Children often need help to identify and manage their emotions. The feeling tree offers a designated space, with visual supports and soft items, that children can learn to go to when they are struggling with or need a break to manage their feelings. Create a visual “Feeling Tree” with branches. Children can "hang their emotions on the tree" with Velcro pictures that represent different emotions. When a child is by the tree, check in to see if they need help identifying or managing emotions. Teach the children how to use the feeling tree and help them feel better by asking what positive emotion they could hang on the tree or leading them through a calming activity such as deep breathing.
