You can also model how to say what you need in different situations. Children need to see models of how to communicate when they are experiencing different emotions. You can use natural opportunities to model saying what you need. For example, if you cannot log in to your computer, you might say, “My password isn’t working. I know I have the right one. This is so frustrating. I need to walk away and try again in a few minutes.” If you come back from lunch and feel drowsy you can say, “I am feeling sleepy after lunch. I need a pick-me-up.”
