Encourage them to slow down and focus on their food, paying attention to its texture, smell, taste, and sensation as they eat. Encourage them to chew slowly and be aware of the movement of their mouth, tongue, and teeth. Encourage them to continue to chew for 20-30 seconds and pay attention to the sensation of the food as it travels down their throat and towards their stomach.
