Greeting rituals are how you consistently welcome children each day. They often involve choices like a hug, high five, or a handshake. You can get as creative as you’d like, for example, ask whether the children want an elephant or a mouse greeting. An elephant greeting might be pretending your arm is a trunk and saying hello in a deep voice while waving your pretend trunk. A mouse greeting might be pretending your hands are whiskers and saying hello in a quiet, high-pitched voice. Greeting rituals are especially important when you have a difficult day with a child – the next day, it is important for the child to know you still want to connect with them and start fresh.
