Put children in groups of 3 or 4 and have them create their own island. They can name their island and make all the rules. Give them a poster, markers, and loose art materials to create a visual of their island. As an extension, have them present the island to the group as a travel agency, enticing people to visit the island. Younger children will need more assistance from you, but older children can take it and run with it. Watch closely to make sure all children are included in the discussion and decisions. If someone is being left out, ask questions to help draw them in to the activity. “Let’s ask Jax what he thinks about the rule that everyone must have a dog.”
